Annual General Meeting of the SAVE THE GLAMORGAN Campaign, 21st October 2021

Message from Roger Wagner, Secretary of Save the Glamorgan Campaign

Hi Save the Glam members!
At this AGM as you know we will make a historic decision concerning our bid for this historic pub.
The Glamorgan is a piece of Croydon History, appropriately a registered Asset of Community Value, the original Horse and Groom which was placed as a temptation at the back gate to the East India Company’s academy in the late 1830s, (I imagine to tempt cadets to slope off from their studies through their Orchard for a well-earned refreshing fortifier before being drafted to hotter climes where many of them perished in service of what became the Empress Victoria’s Raj). It was there when she came to the throne in 1837. It was there when Croydon began the mistaken process of making East Croydon an orphan community by accommodating the railway to East Croydon Station in 1841. Tonight we take a crucial step in ensuring its revival.
